Re: Born to Run out and go get this thing
Fri, November 18, 2005 - 11:35 AMSo I don't have it, but it's this 30th anniversary box set of born to run, with all sorts of bonus stuff incl. a DVD of a performance during the BTR era, and a making-of documentary. Check it out

Re: Born to Run out and go get this thing
Sat, January 7, 2006 - 8:46 PMI got it for my husband for Christmas (gotta love those gifts he shares with me!) and it is great. The Making of BTR documentary is Bruce and various band members and people involved with the record talking about their experience when they made it. Bruce takes us to the house he was living in when he wrote all the songs and on a tour around the New Jersey town he lived in. I had no idea he was such a control freak and wrote every single note everyone played.
Then we watched the live show from November 1975 in England. Interesting to watch how those songs evolved. Bruce looks like a scrubby little guy with a huge voice on stage.
Fun stuff. A must for any Springsteen fan. -

Re: Born to Run out and go get this thing
Mon, February 20, 2006 - 11:10 PMI really liked the making of doc too.
But man, when they showed that part with the alternate mixes of "Born to Run" with the strings and the Disco back up singers, I nearly threw up. Man, they really dodged a bullet by ultimately scrapping that mix, I wonder how different my life would be if they decided to go with that mix....
ugh! *shudders* -

Re: Born to Run out and go get this thing
Tue, February 21, 2006 - 1:41 AMI found the other mix interesting as an example of the process Bruce went through to arrive at the final project. I'd be willing to guess that any great recording probably had other parts or versions that got dumped on the way to the final result.
