the wild, the innocent... was my first springsteen album, got it a couple of years ago, after listening to a friend's copy on vacation. i was blown away by such a short, but beautifully crafted album. the brass and piano are just so expressive...

im currently working through his musical arrangements - my aim is to be able to play all of the songs of his that i love on piano.

Zoorock...Too bad you aren't in Portland. i'm a Bruce-friendly piano teacher. I play his stuff all the time too.

I think my first Bruce album was Born to Run, way back in the late 70's.

pretty sure my first was born to run, back in late 70s somewhere.
as for bruce's meaning to my life, there was a time i swore he kept me from killing myself, but that was just a lot of teenage angst probably.
i think darkness was second, then went backwards to wild, innocent and greetings, then forward with almost all the rest. i'm missing a couple. this tribe is rekindling my love for bruce, tho, so maybe i'll go and fill in those holes.

Hehe, I only started with Greatest Hits, back in '95 (only had my first cd player and money for cds then :)) to relive some memories from early childhood when kids in my class played (and play-backed) him a lot. I didn't like to be main stream then, so at that time I was a fan of Shakin' Stevens :D. But then in '95 I saw this Greatest Hits cd and I thought "why not" and in 1 day I could sing Born to Run and Thunder Road by head :D

Mine was Wild, Innocent and the E Street shuffle purchased on cassette at Tower Records ca. 1984. It's still in my top three favorite Bruce albums.

Born in the USA. I was in my early teens, and a mate played it in his car all the time. And that's where it all started...

Born in the USA was the 1st one for me too. Not only my first Springsteen but my first album ever.
20 years later, I still can't say I was born here, but at least I live here. Not a coincidence.

Awesome. I don't think I could've picked a better first album ever. Every year it becomes more signifigant for one reason or another. More then any album, I've really grown up with this one.

i think it was the 75-85 cassette set, a christmas gift in 1985. i was 10. someone on my family heard i liked bruce springsteen (and in the fashion of my ever pragmatic relations) bought me the most thorough set they could find. i still have the booklet that came with the cassettes, unfortunately, they died years ago. i only have one of 3 left of the cd set i bought to replace those. anyone got a copy of 75-85 they'd burn for me? the soundtrack of my life.

best gift i ever got from a roommate in college was a copy of greetings from asbury park, on vinyl.

Born to run - at a flea market - in India. Sometime in the 80s.
Had an opportunity to go to 5 countries.
Chose USA . Any country that calls him the BOSS are my kinda guys . Been here 10 years and still the best thing that happened to me.

Born to Run. My brother got it soon after it came out in '75 and I used to listen to his copy. Then I saw Bruce live for the first time in '77 and went out and bought the first 3 albums right away.

Greetings from Asbury Park. 1973. I was fifteen. Perfect timing. Bruce was the major voice for my adolesence to this day. In fact, I just emerged from my first iPod experience having listened to Spirit in the Night several times. And listening to Nebraska on the iPod is just other-worldly.

I grew up in New Jersey and spent my summers in Belmar, just a few towns south of Asbury. I lived and breathed his songs and lyrics. My friends and I would drive around screaming out the lyrics to Born to Run quite literally, "somewhere in the swamps of Jersey." I remember standing in the living room of my house looking at the current issues of Time and Newsweek with his face on both covers. I sure with I had kept them.

I had no idea that 30+ years later I would still be gobbling up all his words and songs. "The Rising" kills me. I weep almost every time I listen to it.

He welcomed me to young adulthood with Growin' Up and has carried me through all the years since. To have grown up in the same area of NJ, it's a special thrill to know exactly where he's singing about and I just know the feeling of the Jersey shore scene... the greasers, the muscle cars... the chicks... the amusement parks, the boardwalk... cruising Ocean Avenue. For me, he is the king. He's the top. He reigns supreme.

Excellent thread you started! I'm gonna have to turn to my journal and really pick apart the zillions of ways he has influenced my life. And still is.

    OK. I'll stop now.
