I wonder who out there hears Bruce songs, and sees a parallel which might not have even be meant or accepted as the meaning, but you still draw a lot from it.
Examples for me:
Glory Days - "I have a friend was a big baseball player..." That whole verse when I hear it reminds me of a friend who actually passed away. The meeting in the "Roadside Bar" is more figurative for having a drink, and the "I was walking in, he was walking out, went back inside sat down" part speaks more on memories than an actual conversation...
Sandy, 4th of July - My Boss friends say I'm nuts, and find it somewhat sacreligious (sp?). "You know that Tilt a Whirl down on... I got on my shirt got caught... Joey kept me spinning ... didn't think I'd ever get off" - Joey is a chick. He's explaining to Sandy how he wants to leave all the BS behind, which includes him f*&king around with other girls, which he sings about throughout the song. He kept partying with Joey ("spinning") and then the obvious "get off" line. The way he sings it though, you'd think Joey was a guy operating the Tilt a Whirl - and maybe that's all it is.
That might be far fetched, possibly wrong, I know, but that's what I hear.
So let's hear your guys' alternate takes on songs...
Peace,
D
