Sue mentioned all time favourite songs, just interested to see what everyone else's is. Maybe there's some great songs we're sleeping on? Also least favourites would be a good one too.
Faves: Rosalita, Racing in the Street, Thunder Road, Incident on 57th St, Fire, Candy's Room, If I should Fall behind, My Beautiful Reward, My Love Will Not Let you down, You're Missing, 41 Shots, Highway Patrolman, Darkness on the Edge of Town, I'm On Fire
Least Fave: 57 channels and Nothing on, Mary's Place, I wish I were blind

Re: Favourite Song?
Tue, February 10, 2004 - 10:17 PMmany years back, there was some kind of show on the radio playing every known bruce song ever (or so it seemed), and one of them was 'chimes of freedom,' don't even know who wrote the song. it was bruce at his best. we taped it off the radio but i don't know where that tape ever got to. anyone else ever heard that tune? it's fucking phenomenal. -

Re: Favourite Song?
Tue, February 10, 2004 - 11:05 PMBob Dylan wrote this originally around 1964. Bruce's version is slightly shorter tho (compare on springsteen.4t.com/lyrics/c...edom.html ). I bought it on a 4-track cd at Amazon (www.amazon.com/exec/obido...717-6737431 which is still available.

Re: Favourite Song?
Wed, February 11, 2004 - 2:56 PMHmmmm.
I can't think of a BS song I don't like.
I must say I don't feel like a Springsteen "fan". I can't remember release dates, producers etc. I do feel however, that whenever I'm "down" I can allways put Springsteen on and find moods and lyrics to pull me back up. A few of the songs I like the most are:
- Hungry Heart, "I took a wrong turn and I just kept going"
- The River, "Now I just act like I don't remember, Mary acts like she don't care"
- Dancing in the dark, "You can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart" - Except than whenever I hear that song I see the the video inside my head :-)
- Brilliant disguise, "Struggling to do everything right.. And then it all falls apart"
- Streets of Philadelphia, "Unrecognizable to myself"
Somehow I feel like Springsteen is an old friend, that I can allways turn to.
I hope I got the lyrics right :-)

Re: Favourite Song?
Wed, February 11, 2004 - 3:03 PMRather than offer an extensive list I'll limit it to the two songs that mean the most to me. For the young, wide-eyed romantic vision of his early work, "Rosalita" really has it all. For the world-weary, make-every-word-count Bruce, I have to say "Promised Land."
Then again, has any song ever kicked more ass than "Born to Run?" -

Re: Favourite Song?
Thu, February 12, 2004 - 6:20 AMIn the literature textbook I had in college, the lyrics of two songs were included in the poetry section -- one was "Eleanor Rigby" and the other "Born to Run". It's good enough to stand on its own, even without the music. Two years ago on New Years Eve I was up in my attic listening to this song on a walkman and at midnight fireworks exploded in the air right in time with the "everlasting kiss" line. It was amazing and I'll never forget it. -

Re: Favourite Song?
Thu, February 12, 2004 - 4:34 PMdid you hear bruce talking about that song, some live recording i heard of him playing it on an acoustic guitar, and he was saying how, once he put all those people in all those cars, where were they gonna go? and how the song was really about going home.
perhaps elementary, but, in case it hadn't occurred to everyone. :-) -

Re: Favourite Song?
Fri, February 20, 2004 - 12:33 AMtoday, a propos de nothing, into my head popped "it's too hot in these tunnels/ you can get hit up by the heat/ you get up to get out at the next stop but they push you back down in your seat/ and your heart starts beating faster as you struggle to your feet/ and they you're OUTTA THAT HOLE, and back out on the street and them SOUTH SIDE sisters sure look pretty."
IT'S SO HARD TO BE A SAINT IN THE CITY: i LOVE THAT SONG!!

Re: Favourite Song?
Sat, February 21, 2004 - 11:47 AMJust sitting here wondering whether or not I'm glad there's no sound on tribe postings. [BG]
I often sit in my car in the morning and find myself singing one of his songs. Unfortunately I don't sing that well, so I prefer to "do it" when I'm on my own (the shower or the car).

Re: Favourite Song?
Sat, February 28, 2004 - 1:43 AMno one even mentioned jungleland:
beneath the city/two hearts beat/soul engines running through a night so tender/in a bedroom locked/in whispers of soft/refusal and then/surrender
in a tunnel uptown/the rat's own dream guns him down/and shots echo down them hallways in the night/no one watches as the ambulance pulls away/or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light
outside the street's on fire/a real death waltz/between what's flesh and what's fantasy/and the poets down here/don't write nothing at all/they just stand back and let it all be
and in the quick of a knife/they reach for their moment and try to make an honest stand/but they wind up wounded/not even dead/tonight in jungleland.
or: back streets, damn.
hiding on the back streets/with a love so hard and filled with defeat/running for our lives at night in them back streets.
i mean really: 'a love so hard and filled with defeat'!!!!!
BRUCE RULES!!!
(ok ok, i was listening to 'born to run' today, obviously) -

Re: Favourite Song?
Mon, September 6, 2004 - 12:43 AMall of you have truly excellent taste in the boss, but come on, I didn't see one person say Point Blank. That is easily the best boss song---if you've ever had an ex-girlfriend situation similar to the situation of which he sings, you know what I mean...
and I also only saw one vote for Lost in the Flood, that's definitely number 2 on my list...
beyond those two, I couldn't even begin to decide... -

Wed, September 8, 2004 - 5:15 PMnot necessarily...the invitation read:
so, roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair,
the night's busted open and these two lanes will take us anywhere.
that was all cool. the marriage, of course, lasted a year. -
