Re: Favourite Album?
Wed, April 14, 2004 - 12:48 PM1. Darkness (The ultimate drive into work after 4 hours of sleep, cause you've been working super late, and wonder if anyone appreciates what you're doing. Bruce does.)
2. Born to Run (The ultimate sunny afternoon BBQ, flirting with the ladies album. Nice to drive too.)
3. E Street Shuffle (Musically my favorite. Rosalita has no equal. 7 song albums seem to be missing something, but not this one.)
4. Nebraska (When you wake up, before you go to sleep, never a bad time. Great, but you need to swim in the shallow end of the pool before you go in deep... I think?)
5. Born in the USA (Darlington Co., I'm Going Down, No Surrender, I love more now than then.)
6. The River (I like a lot of the songs, but it seems more aimed at gaining fans versus satisfying fans. Drive All Night is a gem.)
7. 18 Tracks (They picked the best of the best from that 56 Track Box set. I kinda want the Box set now. Good stuff. Anyone have it? Solid?)
8. The Rising (The emotions of the time this conjures up adds a lot of power to these songs, but they all seem to move at the same tempo, with the same feel. Not a lot of range.)
9. Greetings (Not an E Street album, but I wish Bruce would listen to this album before each time he went in the studio. It has a certain energy, and I'd rank it higher than the River if it was an E Street album... oh well. :-) )
10. Greatest Hits - (Yeah you have half the album if you got albums 1-9 on this list. You get the best of his post E Street stuff - Human Touch being my fave - and others.)
Wow, I went for it... I feel at home here... :-)
Peace,
D

Re: Favourite Album?
Thu, April 15, 2004 - 7:38 AMI'll express a minority opinion and say that, when all is said and done, The River is my favorite Springsteen album. It's the most varied musically, emotionally and conceptually.
The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle is a close second.
I will say that Born in the U.S.A. is, despite it's gargantuan sales, an underrated record. Listening back to it now, it's a masterpiece of songwriting and ensemble playing. It's also hard to imaginge a superstar these days (outside of Hiphop, perhaps, but even there its rare) releasing an album that politically charged. With 12 songs no less! -

Re: Favourite Album?
Fri, April 16, 2004 - 1:01 PMThe River as an album doesn't make my top three, and I just don't take it off the shelf as much as the others.
But The River the SONG is still perhaps the most powerful and affecting of Springsteen's work for me.
